Ex-PDP national chairman dies in Canada

Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Vincent Ogbulafor, has passed on.

Ogbulafor, 73, died at a Canadian hospital after a long battle with kidney disease.

In a tribute to the late politician, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu described Ogbulafor as Abia’s biggest gift to Nigerian politics in the third republic.

Ikpeazu extolled Ogbulafor’s giant strides as a Minister of Economic Planning, national secretary, and later national chairman of the PDP.

“Prince Ogbulafor is a first-class gentleman, an authentic Nigerian leader and one of the most outstanding Abia indigenes whose sojourn in politics and administration put Abia firmly on the map of Nigerian political development, especially in the third republic,” Ikpeazu said.

“His activities kept Abia in the limelight, and he served this country with unparalleled dedication. During and after his national assignment, he never forgot home as he always made himself available and was involved in the political process in Abia.”

While expressing deep regrets over Ogbulagor’s demise, Ikpeazu described him as the “master of calm but result-oriented political diplomacy” whose wisdom would have been a great asset to the PDP during this period.

Similarly, Senator Theodore Orji and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu have expressed sadness over Ogbolafor’s passing.

In separate press statements, both former governors commiserated with the government of Abia state and the family over the former PDP chairman’s death.
